Is it gay to horseride?

Hi. I am in my late teens. I want to take up horse riding as it seems like a relaxing thing to do...I was just wondering though if people thought it was a gay thing to do? I mean, you only really ever see girls horseriding and any guys I have seen, have always grown up with horses(their parents owning stables)...Also, what do I need to have when starting riding? What are aigle boots like?

It's not gay. I started riding in college and I know a few boys who started riding then too. In the high level showing, there's actually a lot of men riders. It's really not gay... there will always be some football jocks who make fun of you, but that's only because they're stupid and don't understand it, but it's really not gay. Actually, it'll probably be a really good way to meet girls!





to start riding, you should have long pants and hard sole shoes (like boots, but not really wide like hiking boots). Helmets are usually provided, but you can get your own if you want.





I highly recommend riding... I love it.

Reply:Well, Its not really gay to ride. Many people think that in general, English is more of a girly sport and Western is more of a manly sport. You may be made fun of, but if you keep your head on straight, then you won't really be offended. You just have to choose your discipline wisely. Trust me, there is only one guy that rides in the local shows, and he could get ANY girl he wanted that rides at that show.


So if i were you I would try out Western before English

Reply:horseriding is NOT gay. i just got my first horse at 16. plenty of people start in their late teens. you should look into roping or western pleasure. when you start riding, you should get lessons so you know how to control the horse. buy some nice boots with a heel (ariots are great). a saddle, pad, and head stall of course. you can buy used stuff at tack stores or feed stores. i've never heard of aigle boots...can't help you there.
Reply:Its an amazing sport i'd deff recommend taking it up.... not only will you get all the ladies attention... you'll love it... aigle boots are good but ariats are the best... to start riding you need long pants (jeans), a helmet and boots... the stable you ride out will provide the rest... deff take up riding we need more men interested in horses... best wishes :)

Reply:Take one look at a rodeo and you will quickly see that horseriding is not gay. Those guys usually have wives. To start riding look for a riding center and call for classes. Or if you know someones that owns them, just ask if you can ride.
Reply:of course not! i have been riding since i was 8 and i have known and seen a lot of guys ride. it does take alot of practice and hard work. its not just sitting on a horse like most ppl think! for now, u shold just have boots w/ a heel (Ariats r my fave) and a helmet. if u get ur own horse u will need to get a saddle, halter, bridle w/ bit and reins, saddle pad, feed, grooming equip. etc. u should also start taking lessons to get the feel of riding and learn the basics and to decide if u like it well enough to stick w/ it b4 u buy ur own horse or whatever. don't worry ,there are a ton of guy riders!
Reply:Heck No it is not Gay to ride horses! It is a great way to spend a day and do not let others tell you any different! Grown men ride all the time and they are married for the most part. Enjoy whatever you want to do in life!!!
Reply:omg you should not think that jocks may think that but there stupid and don't know anything and i really like a guy that rides it shows that he doesn't care what other people think and your risking your life out there so it's kind of like football olmost and you'll make really good friend. some of the best horse back riders are guys and those cowboys yehaw there hotties!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply:Hey oh my gosh no, riding horses is not gay! I have several guy friends that ride horses actually, and let me tell ya...they're certainly not gay! lol I grew up riding horses and it's wonderful, I love it. And even if some people do think riding is gay, it shouldn't matter, you do whatever you aspire to do. There are several different disciplines in riding. The two main ones are English and Western. I rode western when i was younger (its a good place to start) and then took up huntseat (type of english) when i was about 11. I did dressage which is where you ride around an arena making your horse do fancy moves. I also did stadium jumping where you ride around an arena jumping fences (its quite thrilling!) you can also do the same thing in open fields, where it is called cross country. You could do any of these or do western and try barrel racing, or just riding for pleasure. You should contact a local stable if you are seriously interested to ask them any questions!
