Ok well my first question is... Does the Marines pay for your flight(or bus ride?) to boot camp? I live in MO and will be going to San Diego for boot camp. and do they pay for family's to come to graduation. Or for you to get to the SOI after your 10 day leave. And my other question is... how long after going to MEPS and signing in do you leave for boot camp? Do you get to pick when you leave. Im thinking really serious about joining the Corps and i was just wondering this stuff and help is appreciated thanx.
Some questions about the Marines?
The USMC does pay for your flight to MCRD-San Diego. They do NOT pay for families to go to graduation. They will arrange your flight home for you for your 10-day post boot leave, but you will have to pay for your RT ticket for the 10 days of leave.
If you join via the Delayed Entry Program, you'll be an active participant in when you leave for boot. Some of the decision will be based on your preference.. but it will also depend on what schooling your MOS will require and when there are available slots in those schools. So.. if your school has an opening in January, you'll head to boot in August, graduate in November, MCT in late November/Early December... then off to A-school in January... If they ship you to boot sooner, you have too much time to wait for the next school... and if they ship you too late, any delays in boot or getting in to MCT will make you late for the start of the A-school... They really have it down to a science... your recruiter will work with you on all of that.
Reply:Fling, of course they pay to get ya there. After that you are "property of the US Gov't. After that ,don't believe anything they tell ya at the recruiter's office. If your parents' want to see ya graduate they pay their way not the US Gov't . But if ya can "cut the mustard and become a Marine ,take pride in knowing you are The Best of the Best, A "Chosen Few"selected to be a Marine.!!!! Semper Fi!!!!!!
Reply:They provide for all your transport to training sites. They will not pay for your family to travel to your graduation though. The training platoons fill up on a regular basis, so you should be able to leave pretty quickly after MEPS. They will work with you to a point, just make sure that you have the details agreed to before you sign on the dotted line. I enlisted on a Tuesday and was at MCRD by the weekend, which is how I wanted it. I wound up waiting a little while for my training platoon to fill up though. Things may have changed a little since I went to boot camp in 1982.
Reply:The Marine Corps will pay your plane fare to San Diego. Actually they will buy the ticket for you.
The family expenses are their own, if they decide to attend your graduation ceremony.
Your travel expense to a duty station is paid for by the Marine Corps. That is, the expense from one duty station to the next. Sometimes this amount is less than your travel expense from home to the next duty station, and sometimes it is more.
Once you are sworn in, you will be given a report to date. This date is determined, by when your training platoon is of proper size to begin training. My guess is, no more than 45 days. The Marine Corps determines when you leave for boot camp, unless you have a pre-determined delay for whatever reason.
Reply:1 Yes. 2No your family would have to pay. 3Not sure dont remember. 4 When ever they want you to go
