Whats the difference!!???

between a field boot and a dress boot for english riding???

Whats the difference!!???
Field boots have laces in the front which makes them easier to get on and off. Dress boots do not have laces and a good dress boot should have stiffer uppers 3/4 of the way around the lower leg (not on the inside of the leg where the boot touches the horses side- this should be softer more flexible leather to offer better feel of the horse). Field boots should offer this as well but should be a little more flexible and not quite as stiff as a dress boot. Dress boots need to be stiffer to offer dressage riders more support and accuracy with the lower leg. Field boot leather should be slightly more flexible (paticularly around the ankle) to allow for more mobility with support when jumping. However, you can ride in field boots for both disciplines and some people ride in dress boots when jumping, usually the reverse. I own field boots that I use for everything.
Reply:field boots you find used in polo more than any where else, they can be identified by the lace above the instep or a zip somewhere. And well dress boots are dont have a lcing or zips tend to be stiffer and require a lot of effort getting on and off,and are favoured by the dressage hacking set.....I hasten to add this is my experience,I am not a dressage rider nor a hack queen
Reply:actually dress boots are boots without any kind of laces. The laces don't have to be only in the front of the boot. i have a pair of Vethium's that are consitered feild boots becuase they have a laced calf section. if your debating about which to get, i suggest field boots as they are often more comfortable and easier to fit. I like the elequence they bring as well. good luck! Lauren- you're thinking of paddock boots, which are usually used for schooling with half chaps or without (depending on age) as they come only up to the ankle.
Reply:a field boot is for riding in the grassy fields and a dress boot is for show or competitions.
Reply:Field boots have a little section of laces in the front, at the ankle area, dress boots don't. They are also not really appropriate for dressage or eventing. I would get dress boots since they will fit in no matter what you choose to do.
Reply:feild boots go to your ankels and dress boots go up to right below your knee. They are are expensive too.
