What is something funny or interesting...?

that happened when you were dressed in your riding cloths (breeches, tall boots, chaps, crop, spurs etc...) and went somewhere like the store. What types of reactions did people give you or say to you?

What is something funny or interesting...?
Haha, actually it's not uncommon to see people in their show-clothes in my town. Although it's not uncommon for cowboys to ride horseback through the streets or see horses tied outside of the bars either...

There is a guy in town that you can see bathing his saddle-trained Longhorn steer in the car wash every now and then.
Reply:i ride english so i am always in my paddock boots, half chaps, schooling tights, or breeches haha people look at me, guys stare at my butt haha , girls look grossed out because of my dirty shoes lol and my oh so un stylish pants

i go to price choppper, walmart, the bank, everywhere! i have yet to go to the mall haha

oh and little kids always ask what kind of shoes i'm wearing

not to much drama with me but ya people just look but then carry on doing whatever

haha i always get excited when i see cowboy boots, tall boots, or paddock boots on another person in the same store

i live in a small town and NO ONE rides english!! so it's rare to see someone else in breeches and boots
Reply:I was in all my clothes except a boots. I had just put my tennis shoes on and people seemed to think my boot socks were hilarious. I still have no idea why. They were just simple stripes. But people would walk by and say "nice socks" or "what's with the fashion statement?" I had a friend that went in with her knee high leather, skin tight boots, her warmest jacket, also leather, and her crop stuck in her back pocket. Some inappropriate comments were made that time. :)
Reply:i live in australia on the gold coast.

I used to go on long trail rides and we would pass the local store. Which was on a main road as we normally have to ride along the busy streets of the suburbs to get to a trial. I would get my friend to hold our horses outside while i went in and got ice creams for us all. We would sit there holding one for us and other for our horse to eat, They loved it. we would get the weirdest stares from people but most people would come up and pat our horses. It wasnt very common to see a horses at the local shops eating icecream haha.

I have so many funny stories bout stuff like that but i wont take up all the room.
Reply:I ride western so I dress up in the cowboy hat with cowboy boots,etc..anyways one day i went to walmart to get dog food or something and a group of "preppy" girls walked right by me and after they got about 15 feet away they started making fun of me by saying "yee-haw" and "save a whore ride a donkey" and they called me everything but a human!! I was carrying a 50lb bag of dog food on my shoulder so they must have been jealous or something that I must have been stronger than them or something. But to be truthful...anyone who owns horses knows how heavy feed bags are,so we are use to carying the weight.Anyways I walked at a fast-pace straight toward them...then to make them more"afraid" of me...I dropped the entire bag of dog food on purpose and it made a loud noise that echoed through the whole store. They dropped whatever they had picked up in the store and went running out of walmart.I went back to get the dog food, but I bet now those girls wont pick on cowgirls like us because they know our temper!!!
Reply:Okay, I live in Maine and ride in a town next to mine. the next town over is the city Portland... I had just gotten out of a riding lesson, and was in my black schooling tights with the knee patches. I had changed out of my jod boots into Uggs, so looked kinda normal. anyway, my mom brought me into portland to drop something off at the Boys and Girls Club, which is across from Portland High School. I walked out in front to go inside, and there was a group of HS students outside (And they are the "inner city" stereotype kids)... They all started laughing and whistling and stuff.... obviously they have never seen a horseback rider. Oh and after that we went to Blockbuster... definately got some stares.
Reply:People tend to avoid me if I go to the shops on the way home from the stables, covered in hair and mud, and probably smelling very unpleasant...

When I was nearly 15, approaching my mother's birthday, all she wanted in the world for her birthday was a decent quality schooling whip. So one day after school, I went to the saddlers' in town - and didn't think anything of it really, because everyone in the shop knew my family and popping into the shop on my way home didn't seem like too big a deal... until it came to waiting at the bus stop for 20 minutes, dressed in a posh school uniform and carrying a 30inch whip and a hockey stick! I got some seriously weird glances for that...
Reply:I'd just finished riding but I was in a hurry so I nipped down to Asda without bothering to get changed, I was in my black jodhpurs, half chaps, boots and spurs and wearing a reflective bodywarmer. People scattered, it was awesome ( lol) they couldn't get out of my way fast enough it was really funny.
Reply:i do english in an area that is mostly western. it is pretty uncommon to see someone dressed for either style though.

when i walk into the grocery store in my tall boots and breeches (sweating like crazy with my hair sticking in all directions) people just stare at me. its pretty funny. i went into the grocery store in my riding clothes today to get a drink and so many people give you the "umm okay?" look! one time i went in and bought an abnormally large bag of carrots in my riding clothes and the lady said "sooo...is this for your horse?" i think she could smell the manure too because she made a disgusted face.

EDIT- to Kk Horse Crazy....i love wawas!!! haha where i used to live we had them everywhere! they got the best food!
Reply:I was in my muddy and hairy(Gotta love sheding season.) breeches, boots, halfchaps, and shirt when I walked into Starbucks. I got all these looks from people, you would have thought that I was in the middle of New York City. The person at the counter asked if I was a horseback rider and where I rode, it was kinda obvious but I just said yes and told her then ordered.
Reply:i almost went to church in my riding clothes but my parents wouldn't let me... i did go grocery shopping in them once. AND i had just been riding so i smelled like a horse too! i have also changed into them many times at school for my lessons after school and gotten the sarcastic "nice outfit" from many a class mate
Reply:These are great answers! And a great read.

Once my daughter exited a show ring with full English gear on her TB after a hunter class and got flack from some guys standing there saying she couldn't ride a reining horse.

They stood on the rail later when she switched gear, clothes, and horses and took first in reining. As she exited, she smiled sweetly and said, "And you said I couldn't ride a reining horse!" There was nothing but stunned silence.

So maybe someone learned not to judge a rider or their skills by their clothes!
Reply:I went to Wawa which is a like a subway store and i saw a guy in cowboy boots and spurs and i was in my tall boots and he was like " nice boots you got"

another time I wore my show cloths to apple bees (restaurant) and I was with a bunch of people after the last show of the season so we were all dressed up and the waiter actually started talking to us bout horses turned out he used to ride
Reply:haha thats a good question. well not many people around here ride so people dont really know much about horses or even what we wear while riding. after a lesson the other day i stopped at subway to get some dinner and my sister works there so everyone knows me and one person was like "what the heck are you wearing?" and another said "are those hooker boots?" and ya it was pretty funny.
Reply:I once rode my daughter's champion cutting horse in Texas while wearing my endurance riding tights, Arabian logoed T-shirt, Ariat Terrains, and riding helmet. There were classic Texas cowboys all standing around the fence watching and waiting for me to fall on my a--. They'd never seen an endurance rider before and my clothes caused quite a stir. I loved it.

PS: I didn't fall off during the cutting.
Reply:I ride english/dressage and I actually can't stand going to a non-horsey facility in my breeches and boots, guys oogle and girls just look at you like..this is sooo not in style. I try to avoid it at all costs really.
Reply:I just got back from the barn and we stopped by the store and someone walked by and was like, " Ewwwwww, they smell gross"!
Reply:I have had people comment on my riding clothes and want to know what kind of riding I did and explaining eventing is not the easiest. I just want them to stop talking.
Reply:OMG well i got back from riding and my friends and i went to the store and people were looking at us like "WTF" LOL!! They were pinching there noses because we "smelled bad" lol!
Reply:reminds me of this fantasy I have...
