How do I "modify" my style without looking like a poser?

I've really started liking more of the 80's style clothes (skinny jeans, flats and slingbacks, bright colors, and pointy-toed heels). I bought a pair of skinny denim jeans at H%26amp;M while I was in Switzerland this summer, and want to wear that stuff to school this year (I'm a junior). How do I start adding this type of stuff to my wardrobe without making a sudden and drastic poser-esque change? It's funny, because I'm a farmgirl and love wearing my Ariat pink %26amp; brown riding boots on occasion, but I'm deep-down girly. Thanks!

just slowly bring it in, like wear a bit more and more of it each day. there are H%26amp;Ms in america so youll have no trouble picking up cool stuff like that here too.

either that or just go for it and to hell with whatever anyone else thinks. style is about bravery and making the trends, not following them. if it were me, id just go for it, but if you want to ease into it, just mix and match stuff youve already got, but each day go a little more 80's
Reply:80s clothes ROCK!! I love them too. =]

You could wear new stuff a little bit at a time... like, still wear a shirt that you would normally wear with your skinny jeans. Then maybe after everyones gotten used to that, maybe wear a pair of slingbacks with your skinny jeans.

Just incorporate things a little bit at a time until people forget what you USED to wear and can't remember you any other way. =]

Hope I helped!
Reply:I lived through the eighties (in high school) and girl, that style is ugly.

Don't quit reading now, I do have some advice

If you dress that way, in ten years you will be looking at photos of yourself saying "what was I THINKING?"

Wear your skinny jeans with a baggy top maybe some legwarmers and some over-sized sunglasses but only on your days off.

Flats are always good. Remember heels RUIN your feet.

I used to wear my dad's button up sweaters backwards. Your dad probably doesn't wear button up sweaters.

You may have to look in a thrift store.

On your days on, (school days) wear your skinny jeans with a prettier top, a sweater over it and some flats or some low boots that come to about mid calf.

We were trying to emulate the fifties at that time but the new wave and punk influence really put it off.

MTV changed everything.

Mis matched dangly earrings were very in style then, that is a syle that I would like to see come back.

If no one in your school is wearing them then you won't be a poser at all.

Mascara and purple eyeshadow was the make up of the day.

LOTS of mascara and eyeliner under your eyes in colors that match your clothes.

I can't emphasize purple eyeshadow enough.

Remember, your friends AND ESPECIALLY your enemies are as nervous as you are.

You are gorgeous and smart.

Use that to your advantage.

You know what you look good in.

Be comfortable, that is my advice.
Reply:try mix it in with your farmgirl look without it looking TOO cowgirl+80's chick. and slowly merge into your new style, but still dress the way you usually do.
