Professional choice SMB boots?

I have to get these. No choice. One of my horses has already had a abcess and our lesee never noticed so she ended up riding him with an abcess. I am no longer leasing to her.

I have wanted these for a while. But because the ground in our ring has gotten frozen and i tend to canter my horse alot i need to get back and front ones. I am figuring out size tonight. Although wheres a place.. online where i can get these?

Most ive seen have been around $80 a pair or more. Please post websites.

thanks.

Professional choice SMB boots?
Definitely get the SMB elites, it provides the best tendon support. I use it on my jumpers and dressage horses and it has significantly reduced the instances of "off days."

They do run around $80 a pair.

Is your horse hitting itself ?Over reaching and causing lacerations to himself ?

Just an FYI - putting on SMB's will most likely not have any effect of wether or not you are going to be prone to abcesses.

Proper shoeing however will help some, and not riding excessively over frozen rutted up ground, which unless you have pads on - will leave you open to sole bruising, which in turn may cause an abcess.

Lets think on this -

Tendons and ligaments are in need of support-but not always - some animals do just fine with out them for life - but they dont directly lead to abcesses - regardless of wether or not they are supported - they are in 2 very different physical places on the leg.

An abcess in the hoof is primarily caused by trauma - either repetitive use over hard rutted ground, soft hooves, or a singular traumatic event. An abcess becomes encapsulated in the hoof.If your seeing it errupt in the sole - then I would consider pads.If your seeing it errupt continuously nearer to the heel and the bulbs of the foot,it may be that your horse is knocking himself by over reaching. In that case a pair of bell boots would do you better than a pair of smbs. And a better shoeing job that would allow your horse to break over quicker to eliminate the hitting of the back hoof to the front.
