What are the worst (or most inappropriate) horsey Christmas or Birthday presents you have ever recieved?
For me - I asked my family (who are well known for dodgy presents such as maternity dresses and freakish 19th century style night dresses made from winnie the pooh fabric) for a saddlery shop voucher. Instead, I got a new pair of riding boots (too small, and were on sale so can't be exchanged), too short off-the-rack joddies (I've had my jodhs tailor made for over a decade because I'm tall), a grooming set (I've had horses for well over 15 years - don't they realise I have a million brushes?)
Anyone else?
What's your worst ever horsey Christmas pressies?
My sister (bless her heart) loves to sew, and so one Christmas she made me a skirt and vest. The material was POLAR FLEECE, no less!!! It was pretty blue, with running gray horses galloping into the mists on it, but the shape of the vest and skirt, companied with the bulky fuzz of the material was something I just couldn't bring myself to ever wear!
The best Christmas gift was the year I got my own saddle. I'd been riding my sisters' hand-me-down saddles forever, and was starting to feel like I'd never have my own. Then Christmas morning, there was this HUGE box, with saddle, pad, bridle, cinches, and breastcollar. Best gift ever!
Reply:Oh yes this has happend to me as well, i asked my parents for a new pair of nice English Boots for christmas, i got them but a sise to big, i also got a nice western belt, that was too small.
When i went to return the boots there were none in my sise so i had to get a pair i didn't really lilke.
When i went to return the belt there were no more in stock.
Both ways i was out of luck so i bought just a nice slinky instead of the belt.
Reply:worst ever horsey christmas present would have to be these awful hot pink gloves from a bunch of little girls at my barn. and of course, they actually hang out there so i HAD to wear them atleast five times. they had glittery stringies woven into the fabric. ugh so ugly lol also, i have gotten WAY too many western pleasure show halters for my horse (4' working hunter lol) from relatives.
Reply:I've actually never recieved gifts for my riding from my relatives, only from my mom and dad seeing as they're really involved with my riding. But yeah, this year I'm doing a secret santa with my stable, and so hopefully I have someone that gets me something decent.
Reply:I haven't had one but I'd hate to end up wearing one of those nice yellow turtle neck, hand knitted sweaters with a pony's head on it with an appliqued bridle - yuck. It's the kind that was featured in knitting patterns and Woman's Circle magazine in the 70's.
Reply:yeah....i hate when that happens
Reply:Manure fork.
... no, wait, I actually used that. :-)
Reply:Hands down worst horsey gift I've gotten ever for my birthday, was some weird boots that weren't even riding boots, my grandma made me a crop! I don't know, I also got some weird horse cookies that my grandma made. Just really random hrose stuff!!
Reply:Usually I get quite decent stuff as we actually ask people what they want ( as I'd hate to be the one who bought someone something totally useless. However I have received a horsey necklace and earrings set in gold ( shame I'm allergic to it and I thought everyone knew that !) And the world's ugliest clock - it was a plastic 3d picture thing with deformed galloping horses on it - it's upstairs somewhere ! And some truly foul ornaments several years ago, these were bought by the kids so obviously I couldn't get rid of them, I think they're still on a random shelf somewhere !
I think the best one I got was a stable rug for my horse who arrived totally unexpected and unprepared for. It was bought by a friend of a friend and I was stunned as I thought maybe she'd send me a card but no- she went and got this rug, right size and all !
Reply:I got these horrible horse head bookends once. Everything was exaggerated on them, big nostrils and eyes with a black face and a brown mane. I haven't ever seen a horse this color. I ended up re-gifting them to someone who gave me a present and I hadn't bought one for her. We are still friends but she knows what will happen if she buys me another gift!
The best one was my mom and dad gave me an envelope and it had a contract for a free breeding to a local stud. Dad had traded some hay to this guy in exchange to get one of my mares bred. When people asked what I got for Christmas and I told them I got a free breeding for my mare, few people understood why I was excited about this. I guess my folks finally figgured out a present I couldn't open early!
Reply:You're lucky. At least you get things about horses. My best one is also my worst because its my only one, and that is nothing! You should appreciate your gifts whether you already have them, or if they're too small and so on. I would be glad to have something about horses, even if it doesn't fit, or i already have them (even though i don't have any). The way to solve it is to sell them. You can sell them on eBay or a garage sale or something, and you would be able to earn some money while your at it. Hope it turns out well. Good luck!
Reply:It's not all bad. Look on the bright side, you can these presents back to your family this christmas! Give the boots to someone with bigger feet than you have! The family member who bought them for you didn't care enough to ensure that they were the correct size for you, so why should you care if the boots fit the person you're giving them to? Save money on christmas presents- just recycle the ones you don't like!
Reply:I am gonna get a horse! i cant wait till i get a bad horsey gift! lol
Reply:I got a really ugly cheap looking clock. It had this horribly ugly horses head on it and was very tacky. I had to put it up not to hurt the giver's feelings.. however I was lucky. One of my cats tried to jump up to get to the second hand that was moving and bent it all up so I was able to take it down.
I just haven't fixed it yet.. oh well something else to add to my to do list!!!
Reply:Some horse button covers for a button-up shirt. I was a little too old for them. They were kinda nerdy!
