What is the width of..?

ok well i didnt get riding boots yet and mytrainer (teacher) lady said i can wear tennis (for the first lesson) as long as they fit in the stirrup cuz the sides might be too big ,well the width of my shoe (thats side to side right?) is a little less than 4 inches ,will that fit in a stirrup or,you could answer this question. what is the width of a stirrup?

cj☺

thanks☻

What is the width of..?
That should be fine- most stirrup irons are 4 and a half inches. FYI- Ariats have the most comfortable riding boots by far.
Reply:The width should be fine...you're using a full size saddle, not a kids/youth, right?

And one word about boots is all it takes:

Ariat.
Reply:First, you should have boots with a heel when you ride. No exceptions. I would be wary of your riding instructor for saying you can ride in tennis shoes. I hope you have a helmet.

Second, yes, your shoes would probably fit in the stirrups.
Reply:4 inches might be pushing it a little, but i think you should be fine. i think stirrups are about 4- 5 inches wide.
Reply:cj, i am glad your instructor told you that. What boots did you decide on?
Reply:Stirrups come in many different sizes unfortunately. I think you should just chance it, because there's no way to know the width of your stirrups without measuring the individual pair.

I think you should be safe with Tennis shoes though, unless your trainer has stirrups for a young child, maximum being around six.
