I crushed a spider. Does that make me a bad person?

To begin with I have to tell you that I hate spiders %26amp; I'm a bit scared of them. I was on the way to my car to go out horse riding and spotted a big hairy spider on the drive so I stomped down on it with my riding boot and gave it a couple of quick twists. (I probably wouldn't have done it if I hadn't been wearing my jodphurs and boots but I felt pretty safe in them that it wasn't going to be able to bite me!) It gave a up with a very satisfying crunch! My friend said I was mean. Does it make me a bad person? Surely everyone crushes the occasional bug?

Reply:Spiders are nasty little creatures - sent to scare us - The thought of a crush from a spider though turns my tummy more than the actual spider. - If I have one in the house its very nasty but I have my fantasic spider killing cat....... she gets them straight away.

Reply:Doesn't necessarily make you a bad person but your friend sounds like me, I would never kill anything. If a spider is in my house, I cup it in my hands gently and put it outside. I was always taught spiders were lucky and you shouldn't kill them but that's probably an old wife's tale. Reply:Well friend, why kill it just cos it was there? I have never in my life been bitten by a spider. It wouldn't have abducted you or attacked you, and it had an equal right to life as your good self. (don't feel too bad, it was ignorance) In any case you could just ignore it and walk on by, would you have stood on a crocodile? Try meeting them, start with a tiny money spider and work up, till you are comfortable, good luck. Oh by the way, without them we would be six feet deep in insects.

Reply:Honestly I don't think you are. I have crushed a few spiders in my day. If i didn't they would have bit me and believe i have been bet 34 times and i got tired of it so i if i seen a spider its going down. Sorry if thats mean but its mean of them to bite me.

Reply:i think the "quick twists" as you put it shows you cant be a totally bad person , at least the poor mite didn t suffer a long death. awe im scared of spiders but i just let them carry on their web based designs. they aint all that bad
