will this compromise my fork seals, and the shape of my forks after riding and getting them dirty/muddy? i dont think the boots look very good and would look much better without them. they are the rubber boots like on most 4 strokes
Can i remove the fork boots off of my 86 yz 250?
of course it will.
they%26#039;re there to prevent exposure to the fork seals.
so i would leave them on there if i were you.
Reply:dont do it !the fork sliders will get scarred up and destroy your seals
Reply:Well their function is a crud cover and it wont help your seals to remove them . you may look around for a chrome cap type that works just as well and looks better
Reply:It really depends on what type of riding you%26#039;re doing.
The main reason they%26#039;re on there is to keep the front of the sliders from getting pitted from the roost of a rider in front of you. The maier slider protectors will do this.
The secondary use is to keep the majority of muck and dirt off the tubes and away from the seals. If you ride in extreme conditions - mega muddy, extremely gritty dust and dirt - then I%26#039;d still run boots.
If you ride in cleaner conditions, the maier protectors should be enough. Keep an eye on the sliders and seals though.
Another option is neoprene gaiters or seal guards http://www.gnarlyparts.ca/index.php?cPat... in place of the rubber boots. I think they look a little better, plus they really protect lots better than the rubber boots.
