How long do boots and half-chaps last, on average?

I have Ju-Tey [not sure if that is correct] real leather paddock boots.

They zip in the back, lace in the front.

I have Ariat half-chaps, with %26quot;accordian%26quot; by the zips and quilted on the inside.

I%26#039;ve had the boots since June, and the halfchaps since the end of July.

The sole of the boots, by the toe, is coming apart and pretty soon it will be flapping.. And my halfchaps are very worn on the inside of the leg.

I wear my boots 2-4 times a week; and over breaks [summer, winter] I wear them almost everyday. And my chaps are used every time I ride.

So, I was wondering how long boots and 1/2 chaps, bought brand new, last on average?

How long do boots and half-chaps last, on average?
I have a pair of leather half chaps that I have had for 5 years, I wear them a lot and the only thing wrong is that the tab has gone off one zip and the elastic bit under the foot has gone completely off the other. They were cheap ones (£22) from Robinsons. I just got a new pair for Christmas but I%26#039;m %26quot;saving%26quot; them !

As for boots I bought a new £50 pair in August and they leak and have gone loose already - I%26#039;m really disappointed in them. Won%26#039;t buy that sort again. I do tend to destroy boots though as I wear them up the fields and everywhere so they generally only last a couple of years anyway. I thought these would be better though.

If it%26#039;s just the sole coming loose a bit you could get them repaired you know.
Reply:it depends on how much you grow and how well you take care of them. mine can last anywhere from 1 year to 4 years

hope this helps
Reply:I%26#039;ve had my ariat paddock boots.. for... ummm 4 yrs i think... and they are still going strong... mind you i clean and oil them never once a fortnight... and i wear them pretty much every day... i have a pair of ariat 1/2 chaps... that i only wear when i show... prob what 3-4 times a month and i%26#039;ve had them for about 2 years and they still look like new... but i clean them after every time i use them... i have some ariat boots that i show in and the same is with them... 2 yrs look like new but i clean them after ever show... i think the more you look after them and oil them to keep the subtle the less cracking and wear you will have so the longer they will last... the heal and sole does need to be replaced on some of the ariats after awhile as they wear alot quicker then the leather... my half chaps that i trail and train in are just those cheap suede ones... and they last me about 8months to a year... well good luck :)
Reply:Mine usually last about two years.
Reply:I cannot tell you about chaps, but , I do know about boots, I prefer the Army Surplus Store%26#039;s %26quot;Paratrooper%26quot; style jump boots with the full side zipper up the sides, I have 3 pairs and each pair ought to last about 5 years, you can also get new soles put on them when the tread wears out, that is if you like army boots and the rest of the leather holds up good , I find they give me very good ankle support and are very durable, the toes are just a little large so your toes can %26#039;breathe%26#039; , this is also important to help keep from getting athletes foot . Which ever boots you decide to choose just remember this that you will always also want to use only something like a waterproofer or beeswax after a polishing , NEVER OILS , oils will deteriorate leather much fatser. I have used both mink oil and neatsfoot oil, until I found out about beeswax . Beeswax will waterproof them better and they will last a lot longer .

Another thing to look at is the stitching , on leather there ought to be more than just one or two cheaply place stitch rows along the seams , this is why I purchase the paratrooper boots, there are several seams sewn throughout the leather where it connects pieces together, this also helps make them last longer and adjust better to your feet as you break them in . I hope this helped .

I think you might find the link helpful to the boot tips and rands page, tips on the front and rands go on the back of each boot, they are quite flashy if you don%26#039;t mind the flashy look but they also might help them become even more durable than mine . : *)
Reply:Well, for me, 1-2 years...Whenever I%26#039;m at the stables, I%26#039;m always working, and that usually goes on for about 14 hours or more when I%26#039;m down there....I use Ariat Close contacts with Ariat Heritage II zip riding boots, and they seem to last a bit longer than usual. And that%26#039;s with cleaning them and polishing about once a week...

So, I%26#039;d say about 1-2 years...
Reply:it depends on how well you take care of them and how well they were made. ive had my padock boots and half chaps for over two years and they are still in good shape. just take care of them and buy good ones and they should last a long time
Reply:i have real leather ovation paddock boos and ariat half chaps. i%26#039;ve had them for two years so far (when i first started) and i wear them 3-5 days a week and everyday in the summer. they are worn but dont show signs of breakage. so theyre still going :)

it also depends how well you take care of them. i clean and conidtion mine once every 3-4 months.
